Who's the REAL Celeb?
Aug. 7th, 2008 01:01 amThe great irony of McCain's Celebrity attack is that, as Josh Marshall points out over at TPM, John McCain has taken far more advantage of the trappings of celebrity than Barack Obama ever has.
Andrew Sullivan makes a good point. For the 'celebrity' in the campaign, how many sitcoms has Barack Obama done guest spots on? How many movies has he done cameos in? How many times has he hosted Saturday Night Live. As John McCain's IMDB bio shows, he's done a lot. 24, Wedding Crashers, The Tony Danza show, numerous appearances on Saturday Night Live. It's another example of the curve that John McCain gets graded on. Of these two, there's no question who the more preening candidate is or the bigger 'celebrity' is.
Now Paris Hilton, with some help from some refreshingly aggressive rhetoric and advertising from Barack Obama and a media that's itching for a fight, has knocked John McCain back on his heels.
From Chris Bowers:
They have gotten into a spat with Paris Hilton, which there is basically no way to win. Hilton has nothing to lose, and the back and forth just highlights the frivolic idiocy of McCain's recent attacks. [...]McCain is going to be on the defensive now, even though he started the attack in the first place.
The spoof ad has racked up over 4 million views in just two days and has forced the McCain campaign to address the Paris ad on their web site.
Umm, thanks, Paris.
"See ya at the debates, Bitches." INDEED.
