This one is actually changing votes ...

Of course, it takes money to buy air time so if you haven't yet donated to help in this important effort -- or you can give a little more to help in the "stretch run" -- click here. THANKS!

James Carville on Joe the plumber:

The reason Republicans are happy about Joe the Plumber is they're glad they got somebody hanging around a toilet other than Larry Craig.

Speaking of "Joe the Plumber"...
It didn't take too long for that to show up as a bear-themed story on the Nifty Archive (NWS).
[I could tell it was a quick edit cause two spots toward the end didn't have the name swapped from Jim.]

And speaking of further,
Insult the Comic Dog won the Keith Olbermann contest to name Joe the Plumber's new book. The winner?

1.1 million voters cast ballots in Texas' 15 most populous counties through Thursday (that's four days worth plus the mail-in ballots).

Early voting ends Oct. 31.

Thank You, Apple.

No on Prop 8

October 24, 2008

Apple is publicly opposing Proposition 8 and making a donation of $100,000 to the No on 8 campaign. Apple was among the first California companies to offer equal rights and benefits to our employees’ same-sex partners, and we strongly believe that a person’s fundamental rights — including the right to marry — should not be affected by their sexual orientation. Apple views this as a civil rights issue, rather than just a political issue, and is therefore speaking out publicly against Proposition 8.

The Apple Public relations agent, Orlando Vallejo, gave [livejournal.com profile] squalidbear his work email so that others like he and I can send in our thanks and support of Apple. I, personally, would encourage folks to let Apple know how much their courage is appreciated and welcomed! Please email Orlando at ovallejo@apple.com.

Not too many to choose from from that early in history.
furrbear: (No Way. No How. No McCain!!)
It's training night at McCain HQ:

If Ms. Todd made up the attack, as it is becoming more apparent that she did, and if the McCain campaign was spinning a more incendiary version of the story than they could have known, what we have here is another example of John McCain's willingness to stir up fear and hatred to achieve his goals.

McCain has nothing positive to say as to why people should support him, has no new ideas or proposals, and has stirred up a froth of hatred and xenophobia in this country.

But even more than that, as CNN's Rick Sanchez points out, the right-wing spin machine was all too willing to take this hoax, and blow it into a national news item. This is what the Republican party has become today: xenophobic, racist, lying, hypocritical, corrupt, shallow, and venal.

In a word, despicable.

The McCain campaign later retracted their claims, and now tonight, are denying they were the source of the quotes in the first place. But that claim is flatly contradicted by the two reporters involved in the story:

Tonight McCain spokesman Brian Rogers denied the campaign gave out those quotes, telling Countdown, "They came from the police and were attributed to the McCain camp because of sloppy reporting." An account that does not explain why two television stations both quoted the McCain campaign, or the fact that one of them, KDKA Pittsburgh, specifically followed the McCain quotes with the line, quote, "Police, however, have not confirmed that." And tonight Countdown asked the reporter from the other station, WPXI, to check his notes. He says he got those quotes first, 4:08 pm yesterday, from McCain's Pennsylvania communications director.

The McCain campaign's denial raises more questions than it answers.
