Decaf Karma
Oct. 19th, 2009 11:41 amI wonder if that new arrival to Dallas from 10 years ago that I hung around with for a couple months ever developed any compassion and empathy? I know his comment about depression and its meds made me mostly avoid him from then on. I got a good hearty chuckle two weeks later when he wanted to know why I had not been at church, "I miss seeing my friends" - yeah right, probably just the non-"crazy" ones.
I can't complain about it too much; it allowed me to make new better friends and a few of those I consider family. It also pushed me to get the hell out of Dallas and get serious with David. The main negative effect was that it left me overly cautious about letting folks get to know me ever since and left him to dwindle down to the level of acquaintance.
Domestic abuse is never pretty and it often leaves non-visible scars. There is no excuse for calling someone 'crazy' as a result of those scars.
Karma can be rough - make mine decaf.
