Another One Bites the Dust

Adios WaMu.

J.P. Morgan Chase has acquired WaMu for $1.9 bln (MSNBC.com). (Fire Sale Pricing!!! for assets of $310 bln)
(Bloomberg.com) (NYTime.com)

Wonder if they'll finally give me a non-usurious interest rate?

wamu is the one charging me the 30% APR on my credit card

and what does it mean for those of us who have accounts there in the long ran.

I had similar hopes for when BofA bought Fleet, but didn't happen. They bought a line of credit I had with MBNA as well. To this extent, BofA seems to treat those who originally were BofA customers a bit better than those of banks it's acquired.

Not sure if this will be the same situation with JP Morgan Chase acquiring WaMu, but I wouldn't get my hopes up. If anything, they will probably raise rates in order to help finance this purchase.

Looks like I'm being forced out of the biz at just the right time. Hopefully my bank will pay my severance before anything happens to them.

I hate to promote one bank over another but I've gotten a pretty good deal with HSBC over the ages. I never had unpleasant surprises with them. Disappointments, yes but never a nasty surprise.

It's so tempting to take the last letter where they trimmed another $150 off my $6000+ limit, obscure any identifying info, write "HA HA!!!" in marker and send it back to them.
