Screw conslutting. BooBoo and I were watching Nightly Business Report on the local PBS and it seems there is a shortage of Santas in Germany.

The Pay? Quite good: €60/hr ($75US/hr).

How many IT jobs pay that well AND have "Chubbiness" as a job qualification?

This doesn't make any sense. The traditional image of santa in germany is a skinny looking saint guy

also, fun fact, in the old, old myth he had a black slave that he would beat when children were bad.

The traditional image of santa

It's the same here in Spain. Papá Noel or San Nicolás is the skinny guy. The US-styled Santa Claus is around as well, but not as popular as in the US. And I haven't seen any "store Santas". Maybe they'll set up a giant Caga Tío ("shit log") next to the Barcelona cathedral as in previous years. Instead of sitting on Santa's lap, children beat the Caga Tío with a stick in order to get some candy.

Chuck, ho ho ho

Yah, it was interesting trying to explain Schwartz Peit to my Jewish husband who LOVES Xmas. :D
A few years back we were in Amsterdam on St Nikolaas Dag and saw Sinterklaas leading his horse up de NZ Vorburgwaal. My husband thought telling kids that Peit would kidnap naughty kids and take them to Spain was cruel. He didn't know the American threats to kids of a lump of coal or switches and ashes either. *G*

In Belgium (and perhaps other european countries) we have Sinterklaas on december 6th, and Santa Clause "De Kerstman" (The christmas man) on december 25th. I grew up as a kid believing that the "zwarte pieten" were Sinterklaas's assistants and were black because of the chimneys. Anyway, we would always get presents twice as children :) Sinterklaas and the kerstman are 2 different people. Sinterklaas is skinny and wears typical clothes as the image below shows, Santa Clause is fat. lol
