Pure Genius from Joe.My.God.:
The New York Post is calling for an intifada against the Canadian geese who are wrongfully occupying the Gotham Strip.
It's time to kill the geese. It's especially time to kill those geese most likely to wreck another jet airliner, much as a gaggle of Canada geese seems to have brought down US Airways Flight 1549 Thursday. This time, all 155 passengers and crew were lifted from the icy Hudson River - an extraordinarily exceptional outcome.

Next time? Who knows.

Canada geese are a serious threat to human life and property - not to mention a major pain to pedestrians, motorists and folks who just like to spread a picnic blanket in a park. Obviously, the official cause of the crash won't be declared for a while. But nobody doubts that it was what pilots call a "bird strike" - just as nobody doubts that the guilty birds were Canada geese.

That's because Canada geese are everywhere - and they're out of control.
The real problem is the pound of droppings left every day by each of the estimated 25,000 geese that reside in NYC.

BLAME CANADA!
They were really attractive animals. Until you get close to them. Then they are just another noisy, messy goose. I haven't hunted them. I don't like large bird/game hunting. Quail and squirrels (a.k.a. tree rats) are more my speed. They have a chance at least.
Canadas are making themselves at home as permanent residents even this far south. I have a flock that passes over daily at sunrise and sunset, moving from one pond to another. Apparently golf courses are near perfect habitat for them. In MS and AL there's an early hunting season for the NON-migratory locals that are becoming pests. It's early, so it doesn't impact the pass through birds. There's a higher day and carry limit during the September season.

Canada geese were intorduced into central South Carolina [mumblety - 30?] years ago as a "natural" way of dealing with one of the native pests. Just like kudzu, they had no "natural" enemies, thrived, and took over.

Our apartment complex in Columbia had a large lake in the center. The lake was the year-round home to around 100 Canada geese. The paths around the lake were the year-round home to the shit from around 100 Canada geese. 'Twas quite, quite gross. :-////
