I have never known anyone who worked for a company acquired by Oracle to end up anything but shell shocked and bitter.

This finally stops the rumor that IBM was going to buy Sun. No less than 8 folks have asked me in the last few weeks about the imminent purchase. "I have no idea... IBM doesn't tell me anything?"

I convert mySQL apps to PostgreSQL when I can.

Have for years. It's what, 20 years old? I can recall early Postgres on Ultrix.

I'm surprised there's been a decent amount of activity out of Oracle with Berkeley DB. Still, I'll probably keep migrating from mySQL when I can.

postgres has had so many features MySQL has only acquired recently. It's a no brainer. ;) Where I can, I use postgres automatically.

Oh great! Yet another product we currently resell that will be taken out of the sales channel and we will have to wait 6 months to a year to find out IF we will be able to resell it again or not.

It wasn't a rumor -- it was a failed and very well-covered negotiation. IBM tried to lower their offer again, Sun withdrew their exclusivity, and IBM stepped back from the table.
