Openly gay Steve Hildebrand was Barack Obama's deputy national campaign director. When Obama started to come under heavy fire from GLBT people in recent weeks -- for talking the talk but not walking the walk on his promises to gay people -- it was Hildebrand who went into the Oval Office for a one-on-one with Obama to let him know what was going down. Steve and I spoke late in the evening July 5 in San Diego.

Mr. Hildebrand was on Tom Daschle's staff. I think he's very effective at his job and can really get a point home without being politically nasty. He was a constant target when Daschle was in office. He must have been doing something right.

One small flaw is that Obama CAN change something overnight and hasn't. I guess this is the only real explanation we'll get for no DADT repeal yet, which won't go over nicely with those fired for taking the stand he claims Obama will and most politicians (that Obama's different from) will not. Sigh... will see.
