We had to go back to the doctor’s office to have it done a week later, and the doctor was NOT HAPPY. My second son was born in the same hospital 4 years later. I don’t remember them asking me about it. Routine procedure for little boys.

President Obama and I are nearly the same age, and most guys our age were circumcised at the hospital where we were born. My own uncut status resulted from my doctor's being called into the Emergency room to care for several victims of a bad car accident on the day they were supposed to do the deed right before I was to be released to go home. My mother never brought me in later to have it done. I knew a few guys growing up who were delivered at home who we also "intact." I was born in 1965 - and my mother's OB/GYN, perhaps unusually for the time, tried to convince her NOT to have me circumcised! I wish he'd prevailed.... He did win out in his suggestion of who to have do it, though; a mohel!
