But Tucson has turned out to be a very conservative place, and I didn’t want my kids coming home from school saying things like ‘That’s so gay.’ So we moved back to San Francisco, and I sent my kids to a school that actively taught that homophobic remarks are just… not OK, and my kids’ attitudes have changed as a result of it.

Thank you. Despite my absolute disdain for some of her music (her cover of "Blue Bayou" makes me want to jab sharp objects into my ears), I've always sensed a good person inside.

She was as popular as Farah Fawcett when I was in undergrad. She used to be backed up by the Stone Ponies - which morphed to became The Eagles. For whatever reason, there are tons of retired military in Tucson. I still think she is good looking. Lush Life and Caciones de mi Padre are two of my favorite albums she did after coming back from her into albums. The trio album she did with Dolly Parton and Emylou Harris is a classic.
