Spring Forward. Fall Back.

It's clock adjustment time in the US. Standard Time resumes at 2:00 AM Sunday. Set your clocks back. (2AM bar close becomes 1 AM)

Funny thing - the original rationale for DST was to save energy by extending daylight hours in summer during WWII, the idea being people wouldn't need to use as much electric light. And as the years have gone on, Congress has voted to extend DST again and again, starting it earlier and keeping it going later year by year until now it covers six full months. (At least in part because it's a measure to "save energy" that doesn't require anybody to change any behavior. That always plays well!) But there's growing evidence that DST doesn't save any energy at all - the lessened need for electric lights in the summer evenings is more than made up for by the air conditioning use.

Wikipedia claims: " Modern DST was first proposed in 1895 by George Vernon Hudson, a New Zealand entomologist." And that "the United States adopted it in 1918."

Okay, so it was WWI, not WWII. Can't a person just pull facts out of his ass around here anymore?!
