What you just described is Reaganomics - not socialism.
We have state funded hospitals, and we have a state owned power company etc. That is socialism. Communism is dead. Nobody knows what it really is anymore.
The neoclassical economists would have you believe that their failed trickle down economics plan could work again but they renamed a few things and blames subsidies on the Keynsians like Nader. LOL. Then they bailed out GM and the banks, but neglected to make sure any of them stopped taking high profits or giving bonuses to execs. Interesting how "capitalism" functions more and more like "communism" while socialism is the forgotten foster child. Despite the obvious cost savings of socialist measures we continue to allow the promotion of short sighted right wing ideas. The health care victory was a rare occurrence indeed. One of the issues it takes a true leader to promote because the cattle herd of politicians would never have risked it.
Give yourselves a pat on the back for common sense economics and common sense social policies to win in a time of unbalanced economics created mainly by right wing idiots. You guys pulled it out of the fire.
