Thank you for sharing this here and on FB. Crazy. Very "2012-the-movie" vibe.

I remember that strip of road before it was built-up. Lots of my dad's co-workers transferred down there in the 80s when the Bureau of Prisons opened a new facility and then retired there.

It once was gorgeous country. I've hiked and camped down there. The devastation makes me want to cry.

I saw where the Perry administration cut funding for volunteer fire departments.
I wish the good folks that want low taxes at any cost realize that the price paid can be very high.
This is such a shame. It's like Katrina - a man made disaster set up for nature to finish.

God is sending a clear message to Rick Perry and Texas!

Oh, no!!! When I worked at the nursing home in La Grange, I ate often at the Chili's in Bastrop. This is really upsetting! These fires are really close to town.

That's what I imagine the end of the world looks like.

I can't imagine coming over the hill on the interstate and seeing that.

Holy Crap. Really gives some needed perspective on what is going on in Texas.

I didn't realize you came up here from TX too. I grew up in west texas but lived in Austin about 8 years before coming to Minneapolis.

I grew up in the Houston area and always had my permanent address in Brenham or Bellville ... wherever my folks landed. This is the first time I've had another state's drivers license or registered and insured my truck outside of Texas. That was a hard one. I still have my annual physical at my doctor's office in Navasota.

That's my hometown. My mom still lives there. I remember this view without the Home Depot, Chili's, and all the rest. I remember Bastrop before the Wal-Mart and subsiquent SUPER Wal-Mart. This picture breaks my heart because several of my high school friends and at least one family member have lost their homes to the fires.
