Beautiful, in that searingly painful sort of way...

*laugh* I hadn't even thought of that particular problem yet. :(

Maybe you hadn't, but it's already being done by Republicans in Democratic areas. They're challenging democratic voters whose names appear on foreclosure lists. The ONLY persistent voter fraud I know of is Republicans working to disenfranchise minority Democrats.

It's rampant in Tennessee, and fucking near epidemic in Georgia. The Republican't Secretary of State of Georgia has sent over two million - yes, two MILLION - requests to the Social Security Administration trying to disenfranchise voters who have registered in the last two to three years, er, trying to 'verify' the citizenship of over TWO MILLION people who have registered in the past few years.

The desperation on the part of the Republican'ts to try to keep minorities from voting this year really makes me wonder if Mr. Peabody snatched me and tossed me in the Wayback Machine set for 1876...

I doubt I'll get challenged, being a forty-something white male.
On the off chance I am challenged, I am taking my passport, city & county voter registration cards with me.
*Then* the fun starts. I will not hesitate to call the police to question the accuser for voter harassment within a polling place.
Related to this DO NOT accept a provisional ballot.

A nice piece on GOP voter caging/suppression from DownWithTyranny! which includes this tidbit:
STEP 4: DO NOT FILL OUT A PROVISIONAL BALLOT if your vote is challenged!! In 2004 the Republicans challenged a ridiculous number of voters. The voters were then told by a sweet little lady at a table that their "provisional ballot" would be counted, BUT IT WON'T. Don't listen to the little old lady!! DEMAND that poll judges make the judgment ON THE SPOT. Demand a call to the supervisor of elections. If you have to, go home and come back with a better form of ID.
If you need help, call ELECTION PROTECTION at 1-866-OUR-VOTE. And help those around you when you're at the polling place. Look for people having trouble. Call the number for them. Tell them not to fill out a provisional ballot!

I figure my registration is pretty safe here in CA - I've voted regularly, and got my booklet and sample ballot in the mail recently. They have tended to move polling places around a bit, but it's never been difficult to find.

My polling place never moves. Mom's old enough and Dave is disabled, so it's easiest to just get a ballot by mail, though it's easier in CA than in TX.

I also dislike the touchscreen voting machines.

In my case...

I voted over a month ago with a paper ballot. Then last week I received the "voter handbook" from my County replete with a sample ballot. A US resident living abroad is only allowed to vote for POTUS and congressional races.

Great cartoon. And really disturbing news in the other comments about the most recent efforts by the Republicans to rig the election.

All I can say is that I hope everyone who is committed to seeing serious change in America keeps pushing right up through election day.

And be prepared to fight for a clean election.
