Thank You, Apple.

No on Prop 8

October 24, 2008

Apple is publicly opposing Proposition 8 and making a donation of $100,000 to the No on 8 campaign. Apple was among the first California companies to offer equal rights and benefits to our employees’ same-sex partners, and we strongly believe that a person’s fundamental rights — including the right to marry — should not be affected by their sexual orientation. Apple views this as a civil rights issue, rather than just a political issue, and is therefore speaking out publicly against Proposition 8.

The Apple Public relations agent, Orlando Vallejo, gave [livejournal.com profile] squalidbear his work email so that others like he and I can send in our thanks and support of Apple. I, personally, would encourage folks to let Apple know how much their courage is appreciated and welcomed! Please email Orlando at ovallejo@apple.com.

This doesn't surprize me at all, seeing as how >90% of gay men get hard for apple products and design. :)

It's good news!

That IS pretty awesome...

I head heard though, that his Royal Steveness was a bit homophobic though? I suppose he can't really afford to PUBLICLY be, seeing as how lots of gay men ARE arty, creative and intelligent - and Apple products are AWESOME for that sort of use! :-)

*hugs*

There is also the rumor that One Infinite Loop, Cupertino CA, employs the highest percentage of GLBT-folk in Silicon Valley.

They also sent this announcement on "Apple Hot News". This is the first political announcement from Apple that I have seen over the years.

Thanks for sharing this; I'd read Apple's statement earlier and wished I could thank them in some way. Now I can! I think this was a brave, bold move for Apple as a company and I admire them now more than ever.
