I finally had time to sit down and get OS X reliably booting on the Toshiba Satellite BooBoo gave me. Got OpenOffice and Seamonkey installed without any issue.

Everything's working except WiFi (Atheros AR5007EG) - it detects it, but there's an issue with the firmware. Will try video playback sometime later. All the updates installed except the OS X getting from 10.5.2 to 10.5.5 - the combo update broke things the first time.

so... Any suggestions for a LJ posting client: XJournal or iJournal? other apps to take a look at? Devel environments (preferably non-GUI)?

What I really need is a very advanced "OS X for Dummies"... something like "OS X for Sr SysAdmins". I sense a lot of power in this OS, but the GUI exposes very little of it. There are either GUI hooks that need enabled/exposed... or LOTS of command line stuff ahead.

Share da Wisdom.

Which version of OSX are you using? I never got Xjournal to work with Leopard 10.5, but it works fine with TIger 10.4. I'm using iJournal on my new iMac. If you need my Mac experience, I'm here for you. You're not the only that uses me as Apple tech support.

Yeah, Xjournal looked like it was no longer being worked on. I guess the Windows Semagic client has me a bit spoiled.

I'll probably try iJournal. Running 10.5.2. Should find the incantations for updating to 10.5.5 by the weekend.

Let us know about ijournal. I've used xjournal since the mac became my main client, but it's *very* weak compared to semagic.

And semagic was pretty darned weak anyway.

That's OK. You more than compensate by being so cute and sexy.

But see?

YOU'RE cute and sexy too - as WELL as being so technically clever! :-)

What was involved in getting OS X onto the Satellite?

It was pretty much a by the book Kalyway 10.5.2 install. I can post it in a new post if you're interested. It's VERY helpful to have a linux boot disk handy as you need to muck with fdisk to reset active partitions (others have done this with a standalone gparted ISO).

I'd be interested in seeing the post, actually. Intriguing.
