The Register readers responded to the call for nominations for the worst net neologism - Mephistophelean vocab so hideous in countenance that it must be viewed only as a reflection in a bronze shield lest the reader be turned immediately to stone.

With that in mind, you're advised to approach the list below with extreme caution. Before you do, a couple of points. We've grouped some related words/abbrevations together, such as ROFL, ROFLMAO and ROFLCOPTER, while prefixes or suffixes commonly tacked on to just about any word that can stand it are shown with an * , such as *tard (fucktard, commentard) and i* (iPod, iBook, iCon). Same applies to *2.0 (Web 2.0, etc, etc) - you get the idea.

Right, get voting, and don't say you weren't warned...

That poll suffered the weakness of using radio buttons. I felt check boxes were more appropriate. So for your enjoyment...

I may be insulated or oblivious of a few of these. Thanks for offering multiple choice, having to choose just one might have stopped me in my tracks.

*tard has a pretty offensive derivation, so it rates high.

Twitter-- do people really do this? I mean-- i do see them list today's Twits, but the disadvantages of broadcasting your minutiae have to overwhelm the advantage.

LOLZ/LOLZspeak, Too often these are used when the writer has slid into a moronic state after too many days online.

* 2.0 has never been properly explained to me.

I have one that you don't mention, maybe it comes under LOLSpeak: Pllleeeeeezzzzzzzzzz and its variations has such a wheedling tone. And it seems to accompany requests for unusual and difficult favors, like taking pictures of certain body parts at certain angles. The requestors never have anything to offer in return.

You left out "lulz". I hate that term not just on face value, but for the nasty, mean-spirited attitude that it's associated with.

Regrettably, in my current job I'm forced to conduct a webinar about once a week. We prefer to call them "webcasts", a marginally more appealing term.

Webinar. I hate that word. Totally unnecessary. What's wrong with calling it an online seminar?
