I think I'll stay month-to-month. From /.:
As Sirius XM faces bankruptcy, Slate's Farhad Manjoo reports that the company has bigger problems than just the end of cheap credit. While it has what seems like a pretty great service — the world's best radio programming for just a small monthly fee — Sirius XM has been eclipsed by something far cheaper and more convenient: the Internet. Load up Pandora or the Public Radio Tuner on your iPhone, and you've got access to a wider stream of music than you'll ever get through satellite. So forget the satellites, the special radios, and the huge customer acquisition costs, advises Manjoo, and instead focus on getting Howard Stern, Oprah, the NFL, and MLB on every Internet-connected device on the market at very low prices.
Has it REALLY been thirty years?

Guess it has. MTV turns 30 this year.

I saw a trailer for a movie tonight, the new Street Fighter movie focusing on Chun–Li. I rolled my eyes and changed the channel rather than watch the entire thing through. The original Street Fighter was Raul Julia's last movie, and he deserved to go out a lot better than that piece of trash. And then —

— and then I realized that movie came out sixteen years ago. My oldest nephew isn't that old. When I was sixteen (in '91), I thought anything prior to 1975 was just an inexorable fact of the universe.

The Street Fighter franchise is an inexorable fact of my nephew's universe.

I don't know why that thought so disturbed me. It did make me want to buy an old Intellivision on eBay and see if I couldn't find the Advanced Dungeons and Dragons: Cloud Mountain cartridge for it.

You know. Because '82 wasn't all that long ago. It's still a good game, right?

I got a renewal notice for my Sirius subscription recently, and I think I will only go for a year at most this time. They want to raise prices and limit service this time, but if I 'lock in' I can get it cheaper. I think they are just shooting themselves in the foot. I might instead call and cancel, then let them give me their last-ditch desperation offer to keep me. I can't see them lasting more than a year or two the way things are going now.

iPhone is still not an option for me. Too expensive and too AT&T for me.

Ditto TiVo and Vonage. I haven't checked to see when it renews, if it's before the Mar 10 change, it will renew automagically at the old rate and w/ internet - for that I'll stay. Otherwise, I just don't know.

Wasn't this merger supposed to be GOOD for both companies?

iPhone? With Palm's latest killing off of PalmOS, Nokia's N71/81 models are increasingly looking nicer.

*ahhhhh...*

I have both Buggles albums on CD, and I wish MTV would go back to videos, concerts and music news - what one would expect of a channel called MUSIC TELEVISION. Hell, bring back the Friday Night Video Fights ... though I don't know if there are any videos being made these days good enough to bother with.
