I've been part of the collective for some time now, but since ALL my students are also on Facebook, I can't post anything too revealing about myself. It's too hard on Facebook to limit what your friends, and when you do then they all get suspicious. That's one of the reasons I still like LJ.
There's almost enough security there now. Setup groups and then you can have notes and photos visible to only certain groups. You can have certain e-mail addresses only visible to certain groups. I don't think you can restrict "per status update" though.
