Date: 2009-04-11 02:31 pm (UTC)I think either system can be readily hacked to provide on-hover info for the cross-ref. In the case of LJ, you can probably submit a patch for the perl yourself.
Failing that, if you're willing to keep a manual database, you could probably build a firefox plugin in XUL. :-)
