Unfortunately, since National Doughnut Day was originally founded in 1938 as a Chicago Salvation Army fund-raiser and still is frequently a fund-raising event for the Salvation Army (N.B. in the article you linked to), I doubly wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole today.
Boston-cream-filled are my favorite. But since I moved back to El Paso, the orange-frosted ones (with real orange peel in it!) or orange cake (again, with real orange peel in them) at the Southern Maid Doughnuts shop here in town can't be beat.
But if we're gonna play ring toss with doughnuts on your dick, then to hell with the carbs!
A coworker and I walked into the office today and said, "What?? No Donuts!" Our director looked at us funny until we showed her that it was National Donut Day. 40 bucks later we were off to the local donut shop getting donuts for our department. :) I made sure that we got quite a few filled ones.
