The interwebs has been buzzing for days over the mysterious disappearance of South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, who ditched his security detail and went missing for a week. After claims that he'd been out "hiking the Appalachian Trail" (snork!), the truth comes out. Sanford had been in Buenos Aires visiting his mistress.
South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford says he’s been having an affair and will resign as head of the Republican Governor’s Association. The married father of four emotionally apologized to his wife, staff and others after returning today from a trip to Argentina that followed a days-long absence. His staff had said the Republican was hiking on the Appalachian Trail. He had been a rumored contender for the 2012 GOP ticket. A former congressman, he’s most recently snared headlines for his unsuccessful fight to turn aside federal stimulus cash for his state’s schools.
Sanford vigorously supported South Carolina's Defense Of Marriage Amendment. Bwa ha ha ha.

And, I can't help it. Sanford said he was crying in Argentina. I'm going with Madonna's Miami Mix:

Let's Hear It for the Republican PARTY!!!

Oh, is THAT what it was all about. Wow, the GOP media went all kinds of worry-mode on it. Now I'll bet they'll hardly say a word about him.

One of the best arguments I ever heard for gay marriage came from a conservative Republican. “Why not let the gays marry? It’s not like they could fuck it up any worse than we have.”

I found it to be remarkably insightful.

I saw that Faux News misidentified Sanford as Gov. Mark Sanford (D).

*sigh*

They try that shit every time a Republican does something embarrassing... and get caught... and get called out for it. Just like fundaMENTALists, they're incapable of admitting or learning from mistakes.

Sanford vigorously supported South Carolina's Defense Of Marriage Act.

Sanford vigorously supported and pushed South Carolina's "Marriage Protection AMENDMENT" to the SC state constitution, not just a state version of DOMA.

We lived in SC at the time - 2006, the same year the turdball ran for reelection. The Amendment passed 70-ish % to 30-ish. It's one of many reasons we're thrilled to now live in a place where our marriage capital-c Counts.

I, too, thought of Evita when I heard the phrase "crying in Argentina". The question now... who the hell is left to run in 2012? I mean, seriously, we have Gov. Palin with her 2008 baggage and Gov. Crist with his suppressed homosexuality. I guess Sen. McCain could run again, but that would just be sad. I mean, I do like Sen. McCain... but his best chance for becoming POTUS was 2000. Hmm... I guess, that leaves us with Mittens Romeny. God help us!

It's time for the major contest in the US election to be between the Democratic and Libertarian Parties. The Rethuglicans need to go the way of the Whigs.

Oh, as a Libertarian, I do agree. But I am afraid of where that would leave the theocrats in this country. They would hijack one or the other of the parties and I am not sure I want them hijacking the Libs.

Well - as a member of the Green Party I'd rather it be us, but I suspect many US citizens wouldn't appreciate the differences between us and the D's.

As for the theocrats - they can just fuck right off; there's no place for that crap in politics to begin with and they need to LEARN that.

Hijacking of the Libs would be more numerically possible.

I have to say, compared to OUR politicians, your ones are always getting in to SERIOUS trouble, and most seem like a lot of hypocritical crooks and liars!

*yikes*

Could have been worse for them, he could have been there visiting his boy-toy.
