From a lengthy discussion of "Anyone else notice that a lot of guys who call themselves "cubs" stopped being a cub like 20 years ago? isn't there an age limit on that?"
I just always found it odd to see men who are using Life Alert calling themselves cubs...

How did you know that was my catchphrase?

Someone referred to me as a "cute lil' cub" recently. I didn't really know how to respond other than with laughter.

Maybe he didn't know any other term, for example "pocket bear"?

I love the term pocket bear. But I've never been one. Too tall always. *sigh*

I can't stand it when they try and use their AARP discount in video booths.

The same could be said for "boys", or worse, "bois". But then, I guess it isn't much worse than "gurls."

it might be a state of mind...like daddy.

or wolf.

or otter.

or boy.

i think it has no age limits.

Totally a state of mind thing I think. But due to my girth and tallness I've been BEAR since before the term was widely used. LOL

Folks pegged my to "daddy" before I hit 40. Dunno that I was ready for that one.

37, once Psycho-Ex-From-Hell had left. I probably would have heard it earlier, but I tend to play with older guys.

I think I tend to agree that its probably a state of mind, but I also think its possible that these guys are trying to avoid using the phrase

"complete and total bottom"...

You say that like it's a bad thing.

*shrug*

Maybe its a slightly inaccurate or skewed perception, but , I do believe its what they're tap-dancing around, based on the profiles and personalities of several of these profiles I've seen.

Personally, if they're of a particular age and have Life Alert, I'd be worried that one good orgasm might cause them to stroke out.

*chuckles*

I'd been using this name since 96 when I was 21. I will probably change my name at some point to Billis something (what my high school friends have always called me). All I know is that most sites have Billis as taken.

Terms like "bear", "cub", "chub", "daddy" etc. all seem to be more about self-image and/or propaganda than about physical descriptions. I've seen web sites promoting bears who have two chest hairs (hence "hairy chests"), or chubs who weigh 210 pounds (which is technically overweight), or daddies who are 20 years old (after all, they're "older" than teenagers).

For me being a cub really is more about state of mind. I am 34, so a lot older than your "typical" cub. However I still have the playful, youthful "child-like" attitude and personality of a cub. I think I will be eventually a "daddy cub" but always a cub.

What about smooth chubs who call themselves "bear" because they have a hint of a beard somewhere? :)

I've been using "RedCub" pretty much since I could get online. I've had that handle on BBS's and AIM since 198(something-something darkside), and Its been my name on Live Journal with my membership dating back to 2001.

It is not an exaggeration to say there are probably more people in the continental US who know me as "redcub" than as "Alan."

Guys - sorry I got older! Sheesh! I'd love it if there were some other nom de plume I could easily swap out for, but golly I think "RedBear" just might a little taken. And ask yourself how much you would look forward to having to change all your profiles on all those site we love to hang out at...not to mention adjusting AIM/YAHOO/MSN/etc. provided the new name we want is even available.

Also, I'm just not the Daddy type. I'm really not, despite the grey hair in my beard, the wrinkles coming in around my eyes...just because some of you can pull off the daddy gig (and not as many of you as you might think, can, BTW - but Gods All bless those who can), don't think that means the rest of us are just dying to line up and be posuers.

I may not be ready to subscribe to life alert, but when I get there, if I'm still on LJ, you will read about on a post labeled "RedCub," so just relax and let it be. No one said age was a reason for letting go of your identifers. They just said as you get older, be sure to carry your ID so the police can return you to the nursing home you escaped from.
