Hell, I worked in an AMS lab, where they do lots of carbon dating, with a guy who was a young-earth Creationist. I mean, he was surely aware of things like varved sedimentary formations with 100,000+ annually deposited layers, but still believed the earth was only a few thousand years old.
Never knew the details of his thoughts, but in retrospect he may have believed the Omphalos hypothesis, which is conveniently irrefutable. This might also explain the Monsanto guy.
