The Year Is Almost Over

Survived Easter. Last Easter was the last time David and were able to speak to each other, the last time he got to say "I love you, Yogi." He told me to come back up to the rehab Wednesday, but Tuesday he was having trouble breathing and was sent to the ER and transferred to ICU. On oxygen, he couldn't really speak and it was within a couple days he was intubated and sedated.

I guess the association was too much. I avoided chocolate bunnies, replenishing my jelly bean supply (most only available this time of year), even M&Ms -- all the things David used to buy for me.

Now I just have that dread date in May left to face. It's a few days after the same event for Bear, so maybe we can help each other through together.

Those "firsts" are always the hardest. I'm glad to hear that you have someone who can understand what you're going through. (hugs)

We met at Dave Pryor's 4th of July Fireworks watching but were both still kind of in shock. I know I was. A neighbear saw Bear's B411 profile and sent me a massage saying he and I should probably talk. That was early November. So far we've spent Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's and Valentines together.

The part I have the most difficulty with is that David's death was completely preventable. Repeat episodes of MRSA septicemia, SOB, ataxia, mental impairment. Did any of the docs question where the MRSA kept coming from? Nope. Doc wanted a psych consult to R/O schizophrenia. (Umm hmm, a mentally healthy 55-y/o w/ no prior hx suddenly develops schizophrenia?) Classic endocarditis symptoms though. First time an echocardiogram was done? 8 days before Dave died even though he was in some degree of facility from the first of March.
