Misspeaking About Misspeaking

Over the Bosnia kerfluffle, Mrs Clinton insisted yesterday that she had simply misspoken, characterising the false claim as a “minor blip” among the “millions of words” she spoke every day:

“You know, I think that, a minor blip, you know, if I said something that, you know, I say a lot of things – millions of words a day – so if I misspoke,that was just a misstatement,”

A millions words a day, huh?

Sounds good I guess.

<sarcasm>Well, we all "know" math is "hard", "especially for girls".</sarcasm>

Ever notice how politicians tend to speak slower, allowing time to emphasize words?

There are 86400 seconds in a day. To get in a million words in 24 hours would require over 23 words per second.

Professional auctioneers have been clocked at 400 words per minute. At that rate, a million words would take speaking non-stop for 42 hours.

Nothing like a wee bit of hyperbole to "explain" away a misstatement. 'Thousands ' just doesn't carry the whollop of 'Millions'. Too bad 'millions' doesn't carry the believability of the former.

As I put it yesterday in one of the blogs at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Hillary Clinton has become the Mike Huckabee of the Democratic party.

Or, as the ubersexy and sweet jaybear pointed out yesterday in a friends-locked post, ABC has an interview with a DNC official who says Hillary is about to take "The Tonya Harding Option" to grab the nomination.

I saw that.

To me, the only "gotcha" with the metaphor is that this would mean Bill was playing the part of Jeff Gillooly, which would imply that we could look forward to the release of the "Billary Sex Tape" not long after the election.

I think folks need to clue her campaign in to the real meaning of the TX primary vote: cross-over Republicans gave her the popular vote because they think she's the weaker candidate.

Nothing makes him froth at the mouth quite like Hillary.

My father voted in the Democratic primary for the first time in over 40 years this year - and he voted for Obama.

Why? Because he despised Hillary that much.

My Public-Assistance-Receivin' Republican-votin' Bab'tis' Bother surprised Dave and I by voting with the Donkeys (for Edwards, he said).

But thanks to him, I now know the bare bottom amount that SSDI pays when folks haven't worked enough to qualify for benefits - enough to pay the Medicare premiums.

Not only a weaker opponent, but the Repubs seem to realize that the only "roll out the casual wingnut voter" tool they have this year is to go "Boogah! Boogah! Billary!". They've already used up Teh Gheys in 2002, 2004 and 2006 with all the goddamned "Marriage Protection Amendments" all over fuckin' creation.

Have I ever mentioned that hangnaildhole and I are trying desperately to find employment in the greater Toronto area so we can live somewhere that our marriage from last Summer will actually capital-c Count somewhere? Oh, I have. About twelveteen-gazillion times. Never mind.

We're not even fussy about it being Ontario. British Columbia works just fine.

In the long run, MA and the Civil Union states aren't so great of an option.

We've considered Vancouver, but (a) two of Bryon's longest-term friends moved from Atlanta to the northern suburbs of Toronto about 9 years ago; (b) we've got other good friends that live in the area, from Toronto proper (shout-out to trawnapanda) to Guelph (same to miami_pony); and (c) the cost of living in Vancouver just scared us shitless.

To me, the only real hope within the U.S. is two-fold: first, get a Democrat to name the 2, 3 or more vacancies that are going to come up on the Supreme Court over the next 4-8 years; then, second, find a couple from MA or maybe IA (aren't gay marriages semi-legal there, too?) to become the Ghey equivalent of Loving vs. Virginia.
